Upturn, a leading organisation dedicated to fostering economic and social development, has played a crucial role in bringing The Hive to life. Known for its commitment to supporting social enterprises and innovative business solutions, Upturn’s expertise and vision have been instrumental in creating a space that meets the diverse needs of Oldham’s business community.

After five years of planning, The Hive is now open, offering flexible desks, private offices, and meeting rooms. It will also serve as the new home for local business networks, including the Oldham Social Entrepreneurs Network.

The Hive is designed to do more than just provide workspaces. It will focus on social impact by helping businesses with procurement, social value, and innovation challenges, supporting our local community.

Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said:

"The Hive represents an exciting new development for Oldham. Our partnership with Upturn is creating a space where businesses can grow and positively impact our community. It demonstrates what can be achieved when we work together for the common good. The Hive will support local businesses in succeeding and driving new ideas forward."

The Hive is also part of Oldham's push to become a leader in social innovation. With SEUK Place status, the project is set to play a key role in supporting local businesses and promoting inclusive growth.

Member of Parliament for Stalybridge and Hyde, The Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds MP, who also serves as Secretary of State for Business and Trade, said:

"The Hive’s launch is a significant milestone for Oldham and Greater Manchester. It demonstrates how partnerships can create new opportunities for businesses and benefit the community. Congratulations to Oldham Council and Upturn for their innovative approach, which could inspire other regions across the UK."

Mayor of Oldham, Cllr Zahid Chauhan OBE, said:

"The opening of The Hive is a proud moment for Oldham. It highlights our community’s commitment to fostering growth and supporting businesses of all sizes, from individual freelancers to established companies. The Hive will be a space for creativity, collaboration, and innovation, helping local entrepreneurs and businesses to thrive. The time to invest in Oldham is now."
